KENEDY – Actor Brandi Blevins, a former Kenedy resident and 1998 graduate of Kenedy High School, is awaiting the release of her first Screen Actors Guild (SAG) film, Doonby, set to release Nov. 1 in select theaters nationwide. The film had previously had a limited release in Texas.

According to the film’s website, Doonby is a film about “Sam Doonby, a mysterious and handsome drifter, steps off an interstate bus and quickly becomes the talk of a small Texas town…Sam seems to always be in the right place at the right time to prevent disasters from happening in the town. Before long, jealousy and suspicion drive the townspeople to question his sudden arrival and motives…”

Blevins stars in the movie as “Jolene”, an antagonist in the film who is “the sultry bad girl of the town and who tries relentlessly to seduce Sam.”

Blevins states that one of her greatest joys in acting comes from portraying her characters in a realistic and convincing manner, though that character may be complete opposite of who she is in real life.

“After getting to know me a bit, people who have seen Doonby say to me: ‘Wow, you are nothing like the character you play in the film,’” said Blevins. “‘Great’, I say, ‘I did my job.’”

In Doonby, Blevins stars alongside veteran stars of major movie and television, such as John Schneider (The Dukes of Hazzard, Smallville, Nip/Tuck, Snow Day), Jenn Gotzon (Frost/Nixon, Gods Country), Ernie Hudson (Oz, The Crow, Ghostbusters, Miss Congeniality), Robert Davi (The Goonies, Die Hard, License to Kill, Profiler), among others.

While a student at Kenedy High, Blevins participated in her high school theater arts productions all four years and says that she “loved every minute of it.” After graduating from high school in 1998, she attended Texas State University and then later transferred to Texas A&M University to receive a degree in Communications in 2001.

Blevins realized her passion for the art of acting while attending Faith Family Church in Victoria. She was able to participate in the media/production side of the church as well as the fine arts ministry. It was at this time Blevins believes that God showed her one of her true ambitions in life, which was to be a part of the entertainment industry and to do it for Him.

Blevins has over 30 projects to her name that include film, commercials and webisodes. Her skill and passion for her craft has won praise and notice from others who work in the industry.

“I did have an interesting experience on one of my first films,” recalls Blevins. “In March 2007, I had an opportunity to be an extra in a film called Kings of the Evening, starring Reginald T. Dorsey, Lynn Whitfield, Lynara Washington, Glenn Turman, Tyson Beckford, James Russo and Bruce McGill. While in hair and makeup, I received a call from the casting director stating that there was an issue with the actress who was cast as the Lady in White, and I was the only alternative. I was bumped to a featured extra and got some really great time in front of the camera.”

Blevins continues to work and prepare for future acting roles that portray quality substance and inspiration to audiences.

“My future goals are to be a part of stories that inspire people,” said Blevins. “I have always loved that feeling you get when you leave the theater after seeing an inspirational story. I am also interested in being a part of helping inspire and motivate teenagers and young adults to find the dream God put in your heart and to follow it.”

Blevins currently resides in New Braunfels with her husband and son, and continues to pursue her acting career in Austin. Blevins states that she hopes with the release of Doonby, more roles will open up allowing her to inspire audiences with the characters she plays.
