The Lady Trojans started slow in set one, falling behind 5-0. It took a while but the Beeville girls chipped away at the Miller lead and finally tied the set at 10-10.
Miller fought back and edged back in front at 15-14 before the Beeville front line took control with the help of the service game from Sierra Jefferson. From a 15-15 start, Jefferson helped the Lady Trojans to a commanding 22-15, seven-point advantage, that the Lady Trojans rode to a 25-18 victory and a 1-0 lead in the match. Emma Downing hit for five kills in the first set to help boost the Beeville offense.
Set two was very close. The set was tied at 20-20 late in the contest. Neither team had more than a three-point lead in the contest up to that point. The ball and seemingly all the bounces went Miller’s way the rest of the set. The Lady Bucs had a short five-point run but it gave the visitors a 25-20 win and evened the match at 1-1.
The third set featured runs from both sides. The Lady Trojans broke on top and led 10-3 in the early minutes. At 12-7, with the Lady Trojans holding the lead, Miller ran off 10 straight points to own a 17-12 advantage heading down the stretch. Miller got just five more points in the set while the Lady Trojans took advantage of the serves from Eddika Ortega to outscore the visitors 13-5 in the race to 25. The Beeville girls captured set three 25-22 in a come-from behind rally. Ortega had three aces in the nice run that got the Lady Trojans back in the set and a 2-1 lead in the match.
The Lady Trojans got improved defensive play from libero MacKenzie Harvey, Emma and Margaret Downing, Cheyenne Del Bosque, Alyssa Silva, Marissa Rodriguez and Lorena Rosales to help in the victory,
The Beeville girls closed out the Lady Bucs for the 3-1 victory with a 25-11 set four win.. No stats were provided for the match.
The Lady Trojans traveled to Calallen on Tuesday night to begin District 30-4A play. On Friday night, the Beeville girls have an open date.
