Buenos Dias!

I’m happy to announce that we had two barbecue committee meetings at Sacred Heart and plans have started for our great annual church barbecue scheduled for Oct. 6!

We received our raffle tickets this weekend and the prizes are outstanding! For a dollar donation you have a chance to win any of the 39 prizes which include many visa cards or gift certificates. There are six $50 prizes; 11 $100; six $200; two $250; five $300; one $425; four $500; one dental check-up, cleaning and X-ray for two; a Consuela Make-up bag; a one-year subscription to The Progress and the grand prize of $2,000 for the lucky winner!

Sacred Heart is noted for its delicious barbecue and we don’t plan to disappoint you! Serving starts at 11 a.m. and will continue throughout the day (we have a CCD room that can be used for dining even while the Bingo is going on.) Our heaping plates of the best barbecue with all the trimmings plus tea and homemade desserts will sell for $8. Meat will also be sold by the pound. “To go plates” can be purchased by driving to the designated area behind the parish hall.

It promises to be a day of fun for the whole family! The silent auction is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with many useful items to choose from. The live auction usually starts a little after noon. This is usually a big hit with everyone as the CCD students help to walk around and display the auction items to potential bidders.

There will be a lot of children’s games outside and these are usually played with tickets. Another highlight is our famous “country store.” There are usually lots of lots of homemade items; plants; baked items (empanadas); jewelry; home decorations and once they even sold delicious fruit cups! There are useful items for everyone, so don’t miss out on this!

The monetary Bingo is from 2:30-6:30 p.m. and this is usually a big hit for everyone because the more people playing, the bigger the winnings! (For the past several years, our nephew Sam and Kathy Garcia have donated extra money in memory of his dad, the late Antonio “Tony” Garcia and this is added as extra Bingos!)

The grand finale is at 6:30 p.m. with the announcement of all the 39 raffle prize winners! You can purchase a raffle ticket for a dollar donation from any parish member or at the door on the day of the barbecue. You do not have to be present to win!

Gracie Stewart and Dianna Luna have been very instrumental in helping me with the publicity since I was assigned with it several years ago. I will be faxing, contacting radio stations and then we all three get together to mail out all the letters two weeks prior to the event. And I thank God for all the help from our local Progress and the Bee-Picayune staff for all their help.

So please mark your calendar for Sunday Oct. 7th and make plans to attend this great family event! See you there!

Adios!
