Tigerettes finish second at Converse Judson volleyball tournament

CONVERSE – The Goliad Tigerettes won five of six matches to take second place at the Converse Judson volleyball tournament Friday and Saturday.

Goliad won its first five matches to reach the championship against Judson. The Class 5A Rockets won in four sets - 25-21, 23-25, 25-8, 25-10.

Earlier in the tournament, Goliad defeated Dallas Highland Park 25-15, 25-16; San Antonio Jay 25-11, 25-12; San Antonio Wagner 25-22, 25-20; San Antonio Southside 25-9, 25-15; and San Antonio Christian 25-13, 25-10.

Goliad's Megan Hilscher and Sydney Morris were named to the all-tournament team. Hilscher had 34 kills, 42 digs and 13 service aces in the tournament while Morris had 26 kills, 85 digs, four blocks and 13 service aces.

Also leading the Tigerettes were Ashtin Zamzow (29 kills, 26 digs, six blocks and 81 assists), Roxanne Morris (26 kills, four blocks), Bailey Janssen (six blocks) and Kendall Coles (49 assists).

The Tigerettes (5-1) return to action Tuesday for dual matches against Victoria West and Taft at 4 p.m. at the Goliad Events Center.
