Former Trojan sports star Reginald “Reggie” West recently was inducted into Schreiner University’s Athletic Hall of Honor.

West was inducted into the Beeville Sports Hall of Fame in 2005 for his outstanding years as a Trojan back in the late 1940s.

West attended what was then Schreiner Institute in 1950 and 1951. The school has now become Schreiner University and is located in the Texas Hill Country town of Kerrville.

West was a football running back who helped his school to two conference titles while playing in Kerrville. He also lettered in track. West was also an outstanding student, a class vice president and a student council president while at Schreiner.

The former Trojan went on to play collegiate football for two years at then Texas A&I, now Texas A&M at Kingsville, and won all-conference selection and honorable mention on the national NAIA elite teams.

West was inducted into the A&I Hall of Fame in 1974. After graduating, West spent two years in the Army and then worked for the local Hughes Tool Co. for five years.

Sports and coaching were in his blood and West spent the next 30 years as a coach and administrator in and around the San Antonio area.
