The Goliad County Groundwater Conservation District is monitoring the Palmer Drought Index and Goliad County is currently in severe drought, according to that index as of July 27.

Rainfall reports for the last six months shows a rainfall average of 13.41 inches in the county. Management Goal 6 of the District Management Plan requires that the district report rainfall totals semiannually to the public.

The district records rainfall at 17 locations throughout the county with the assistance of landowners. The district also uses the totals collected at the community collaborative rain, hail and snow (CoCoRahs) network.

The chart at left shows the rainfall totals by month for January through June. For more information, call the GCGCD at 645-1716.
