“Serving as Wayland’s chief financial officer is both an honor and a privilege,” Hukill said.
A 1989 graduate of the University of Texas, Hukill holds a degree in business administration and has been a certified public accountant since 1991. She joined Wayland in July 2010 as the university controller, a position that oversees the day-to-day operations of the business office. She also served as supervisor for financial aid, human resources and the university store. Hukill was also employed by Wayland from 1994-2000.
In March, Hukill took over the duties of the chief financial officer on an interim basis, following the suspension of the previous CFO.
Executive Vice President and Provost Dr. Bobby Hall said in an email to Wayland employees that Hukill’s experience, knowledge and training will be an asset to the university.
“Mrs. Hukill has served capably as interim CFO since early March,” Hall said. “I am confident that her leadership will result in new and innovative approaches in her areas of responsibility.”
The announcement was made as Wayland entered into its annual audit, a busy time of year for the personnel in the business office. Hukill said she is looking forward to the challenge of filling the position on a permanent basis.
“Many positive things are happening in the life of Wayland Baptist University, and I am excited about serving in this new capacity,” she said. “I am appreciative of the opportunity to serve in this role and of the confidence placed in me by the board of trustees and WBU administration.”
Upon graduating from UT in 1989, Hukill worked at Price Waterhouse in Austin before accepting a position with Williams, Meriwether, Smith and Company CPAs in Plainview in 1990. In 1994, she accepted her first position at Wayland as director of financial services. During that time, she supervised the business office staff and operations for the Plainview campus as well as Wayland’s external campuses. In 1998, she was promoted to executive assistant of finance and administrative services where she worked with the vice president of finance. From July to December 2000, Hukill was interim vice president of finance and administrative services. She was offered the VP position, but chose to leave Wayland to spend more time raising her three young daughters. In 2003, Hukill worked independently as a CPA for several local agencies until rejoining Wayland as controller in 2010.
Hukill is married to Plainview attorney Kregg Hukill. She is the daughter of Daniel and Angie Rash of Beeville and Betty Thompson of Florida and is an A.C. Jones High School graduate.
