Parishioners at St. George Catholic Church promise to cook up a day of food, fun and festivities for the entire community Sunday, Aug. 4, at the annual church picnic and barbecue in George West. From good old fashioned barbecue and a live auction, to a country store and market, children’s games, and the ever popular paper bingo with cash prizes, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

The event kicks off at 11 a.m. with brimming barbecue sirloin plates complete with all the trimmings and homemade desserts. The $8 plates will be served inside the parish hall until 2 p.m., or they can be picked up in the drive-through lane located on Travis street. Meat may also be purchased at the pit by the pound.

For those interested in finding unique items, the live auction begins at 12:30 p.m., and the country store and market will be open throughout the day and will include homemade jams, jellies, baked items and arts and crafts items.

Bingo will run from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. Players can either bring their own daubers or they can purchase them at the hall. The prizes will be cash.

Other events slated throughout the day include children’s games, silent auction and a parish raffle. Raffle tickets are $2 each and can be purchased from parishioners, or you may go by the St. George church office. The winners of the raffle will be drawn at 6:30 p.m., and you need not be present to win.

For more information or to purchase raffle tickets, contact the St. George Parish office at (361) 449-1893.
