The South Texas Young Republicans will host Texas Railroad Commissioner Barry Smitherman at their July 18 meeting at The Lodge at Shorty’s Place located at 702 South Washington Street in Beeville.

The meeting will begin with a 6:30 p.m. with a casual dinner and social hour; the program will begin at 7 p.m. with an expected end time of 8:30 p.m..

In 2004, Governor Perry appointed Smitherman to the Public Utility Commission and he became chairman in 2007. Smitherman was appointed to the Railroad Commission of Texas in July 2011. He was a 2012 Republican candidate for election to the unexpired term, where he won in both the primary and general election. Barry, a fourth generation Texan, has a blend of private and public sector experience and has long served the people of Texas.

“We are very excited that Commissioner Smitherman will be joining us for our first meeting. We are eager to hear what he has to say not only about the how the Eagle Ford Shale affects our community, but about the upcoming election season as well,” club vice president Angela Silva said. “This is a valuable way to learn more about a state-wide official and support young conservatives in Beeville.”

Both the social hour and meeting are open to all interested Republicans. For more information about Barry, go to
