Seven year-old Kaydence Devine Menchaca, a Skidmore ISD student, is a prime example of a student/athlete. She loves school and won the academic award for the highest GPA in her class, ranking in the top one percent nationally on the nationally-used Iowa State Test. Kaydence ran for the Beeville Summer Track team this year and went on to qualify for the National Junior Olympics in Detroit, Mich. at the end of July. Kaydence’s specialty is the long jump where she just captured first place in her age group with a leap of 10-2. Her closest competitor was a full foot behind her. Kaydence predicted that she was going to make the Junior Olympics last fall and has told her father that she will one day make it to the “Big Olympics”.
