She was born on Dec. 17, 1922, in Goliad and raised in McAllen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, retired Lt. Col. John “Jack” Howard Earl; her parents, James Cano Kidder and Paula Solis Kidder; siblings, Abel, Elizabeth, Raul, Olidia and Rose K. Arizpe; and half siblings Alfred, Elena, Dora K. Martinez, Ernesto and George.
She is survived by her sister, Natividad “Nettie” K. Garcia of Loma Linda, Calif.; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews in Texas and California, including her grandnephew, Anthony Arizpe, of Irving, Texas, son of her nephew, Richard J. Arizpe and grandson of Rose K. Arizpe, Mary’s sister, who lovingly cared for his grand aunt over the last few years.
A longtime resident of the Texas Hill Country, Mary had only recently moved to Irving to be near her grandnephew, Anthony, and her extended family in the Dallas area. While in the Hill Country, Mary made lots of friends. True to her personality, she made some quick friends in her brief stay at Emeritus Irving.
According to her wishes, Mary was cremated. Her ashes will be buried with her late husband, Jack, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
A rosary and short memorial service was held at 9:45 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2013, at The Angelus Funeral Home, 1119 North St. Mary’s St. in San Antonio with burial immediately following at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her memory to the charity of your choice.
