Sheriff’s office deputies make several drug related arrests and seizures

KARNES COUNTY – Deputies with the Karnes County Sheriff’s Office made several drug-related arrests and as a result took drugs and weapons related to the crimes off the streets and out of the hands of the alleged perpetrators.

At about 5 p.m. on May 12, a deputy made a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 100 block of Daily Street in Kenedy. The driver was arrested after a small amount of marijuana was found in the vehicle. After further investigation, the deputy found larger amounts of marijuana at the man’s residence. A total of 2.64 pounds of marijuana was found along with a handgun which the deputy recovered. The man was charged with possession of marijuana – four ounces to five pounds.

On May 24, at about 11:30 p.m., a deputy conducted a traffic stop in the 600 block of N. Helena in Runge. After further investigation, the deputy found a packet of methamphetamine (Ice) in the possession of the driver who was arrested and charged. A further search turned up a handgun which a passenger threw out of the vehicle. Both people in the vehicle are convicted felons and a case will be presented to the DA’s office for review and possible felony charges of felon in possession of a firearm.

At about 11 p.m. on May 25 a deputy conducted a traffic stop in the 100 block of Water Street in Kenedy. The deputy discovered that the passenger was in possession of 9 grams of marijuana which was concealed in the person’s clothing. The passenger was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, under two ounces.

On May 26, at about 10:30 p.m. a deputy noticed the smell of marijuana near a convenience store in the 100 block of S. Sunset Strip in Kenedy. A search of the man leaving the store revealed he was in possession of about 9 grams of marijuana. The man was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana under two ounces.
