Mr. Vargas was born on Feb. 25, 1927, in Beeville to Adolfo and Cecilia Rubio Vargas. He married Olivia Casares in La Mesa on March 20, 1945. He had worked for the City of Beeville Street Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Olivia C. Vargas of Beeville; two daughters, DeeDee (Higinio) Casarez of Beeville and Lidia (Pete S.) Gonzales of San Antonio; two sons, Adolfo (Susan) Vargas of Canyon Lake and Gilbert (Amada) Vargas of Del Rio; 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Thursday, May 30, from 1 to 9 p.m. at Oak Park Memorial Funeral Chapel. A rosary was recited there that evening at 7 o’clock.
A chapel service was held there Friday, May 31, at 10 a.m. Interment followed at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery #2 with full military honors.
Pallbearers were Gary Gonzales, Bryan Gonzales, Higinio Chris Casarez, Raul Ramond Casarez, Rudy Vargas and Paul Charles Dancer.
Honorary pallbearers were Higinio Christopher Joe “CJ” Casarez and Raul Raymond Casarez Jr.
