With nearly 12 inches of rain recorded in Bee County at the time of this photo, it appeared that Dr. Tom Stark was prepared for the worst with his boat ominously moored in his front yard. The doctor was asked if he planned on trolling down Hefferman street or if he would pull the boat to his back door so he and his family could scramble to safety. Actually, Stark had deposited the boat on the lawn so he could repair his trailer.

A team of Texas A&M University meterology students set up their forecasting headquarters as they begin the first step in tracking, spotting and photographing an approaching storm system. Led by, from left, Greg Bostwick of Beeville, Jud Ladd, Greg Wilson and John Marrs, the team has banded together some 15 young weathermen into what is known as the Severe Storm Intercept Project. The storm hunters have traveled as much as 500 miles in their search for hail, high winds and tornadoes.
