The first annual Pettus Community Center BBQ Cook-off is planned for Saturday, June 29, at the Pettus Community Center. The cook-off is a fundraiser for the center to help with needed repairs.

Contestants will compete for trophies and must donate their cooked items for the benefit.

Rules, regulations and entry forms may be obtained by contacting Judy Nolen at 361-375-2804 or Registration deadline is June 1; registration is limited, so if you have the best barbecue, beans or salsa around, come compete for a trophy and bragging rights, say event coordinators.

Competition categories include: brisket, chicken, ribs, beans and salsa.

The entrance fee for the general public will be $8 per adult and $5 per child; children under 3 are free. With each entrance fee, each guest will receive a wristband and a ballot for voting for The People’s Choice award and allowing for tasting of all contestants’ food items.

There will be music by Ramon Reyna (DJ), fire truck rides for the kids and an auction of baked items. Concession items will be available.
