Construction started Monday, May 13, at the dealership located at 308 North Alamo St.
“General Motors is having their stores look alike ... same theme,” Blaschke said.
He said the smaller stores are in the last phase of the effort, which will end in 2014.
“It will take three to four months. We will have new facade, new signage, and we will enhance the customers/buyers experience,” Blashke said.
He likened the reinvestment to McDonald’s in Refugio.
“We’ll have a new customers lounge, new flooring, dropped ceiling and recessed lighting,” he added.
Blashcke said the contractor, IAM Construction, of Plano, is using all local subcontractors.
“I want to let everybody know we’re open. It’s business as usual. Pardon our dust,” he said.
The dealership’s building was constructed in 1978.
The Wilkinsons bought the dealership in 2001 and sold it to the Langfords in 2004.
Nancy Wilkinson bought it back in 2007.
Blaschke said trailer offices have been moved in to house the sales team.
“The service department will move a little, but it will remain in the same place,” he said.
The last time any renovations occurred was in 2001 when new flooring was put in and new paint was applied.
When the new construction is finished, customers will find a flat-screen TV to watch, or they can bring their laptops and work in the WiFi environment, while a coffee station will be nearby. Plush furniture will make the stay as comfortable as possible.
“It’s something Refugio can be excited about,” he said.
“Mrs. Wilkinson gives back to the community. We’re here to help,” Blaschke said.
