BEEVILLE – Those fund-raising car washes that are often held around town will have to cease and desist for a while.

City Manager Deborah Ballí said this weekend that the city is suspending all organized car washes until further notice because of the drought condition the city is in right now.

Ballí said that if an organization does go ahead with a car wash at one of the local businesses, “The car wash will be shut down, and they will be issued a citation along with the business that permits it.”

Police Chief Joe Treviño said Monday that the fine is $200 for a violation and one fund-raising organization already has been cited.

“Also,” Ballí said, “there is no outdoor watering on weekends, Friday through Sunday.”

Once Corpus Christi adopts a new drought conservation plan, Beeville will follow.

City residents also can expect yard and garden watering to be reduced to only one day a week.
