On the evening of May 2, citizens from different denominations came together at the Kenedy High School Auditorium to observe the 2013 National Day of Prayer. They answered the call to “Pray for America” with praise, thanksgiving, repentance, and intercessory prayer for the United States of America. This year’s theme was based on scripture from Matthew 12:21, “In His name the nations will put their hope.”
The service opened with a welcome by Rick Taylor and “Heal Our Land,” played and sung by members of Kenedy’s City of Refuge Church. Bro. Jon Waller of Runge First Baptist Church gave the opening prayer, and Elyssa Schroeder read Ephesians 6:10-18. The pledges of allegiance to the United States, Texas and Christian flags and the Bible were recited, and Bro. Russell Briley of the Kenedy Church of Christ led “The Star Spangled Banner”.
Choir members of First Baptist Church, Kenedy sang “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”. Bro. Larry Odom of Choate Baptist Church gave a brief message on prayer, and Bil and Cam Homeyer played and sang “Break Our Hearts”.
Intercessory prayers were then led by Tommy Jimerson (Government), Robert Trevino (The Church), Gary Deskin (Our Military), Randy Witte, Interim Pastor of Sendero Cowboy Church (Families), Lacy Pogue (Education), Debbie Locander (The Media), Leslie Wynn (Business), Rob Gunn (The Unborn and Elderly), and Dorothy Pogue (Missionaries and The Lost).
“Sweet Hour of Prayer” was sung by the Men’s Choir of United Methodist Church, Karnes City-Kenedy, and the closing prayer was given by Bro. Larry Odom.
A heartfelt “thank you” goes out to all who participated in this very special event. It was a blessing to watch the Lord bringing believers from many churches in our area and beyond to pray for our country.
