Members of the Karnes City Home and Garden Club traveled to Victoria area and viewed the Educational Gardens near the airport Thursday, April 18. These gardens are truly beautiful and are prepared by Master Gardeners. The gardens are picture perfect and are accented by unique art detail. Our members received a wealth of information about gardening. One gardening idea was straw bale gardening which is a method used for raising vegetables, herbs and flowers directly on a bale. These bales come from alfalfa, wheat, oats, rye or other cereals suitable for making a garden bed. If you wish to learn more about his productive type of gardening, you can download coi8es and instructions from WSUExtensionat http://pubs.wsu.edu.

The members enjoyed a lunch at the Sky Restaurant located near the gardens. We then traveled to the Victoria Hallettsville Mall and viewed the Dalhart Wynburg paintings at Arts, Etc. and also did some shopping there. On the return home we stopped and did some antique shopping and retreated to the Hanging Tree Restaurant for refreshments and additional visiting.

We will soon be accepting Veteran Memorial names for the Memorial Garden stones. If you wish to honor a veteran of your choice in this special way, please call Johnie Hall at 830-780-3842.

We wish to remind the members about the upcoming Garden Club Luncheon along with a brief meeting, which will be held at Barth’s Restaurant in Kenedy Thursday, May 16 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. given by the organization.
