There will be games, food and a silent auction. Proceeds go to the Goliad Elementary/Intermediate School PTO.

Kindergarten news

The school year is coming to an end and kindergarten students have certainly blossomed. The staff is working very hard to get all of the students ready for first grade.

The kindergarten class of Goliad Elementary took its field trip on Thursday, April 18 to the Victoria Educational Gardens and Victoria Regional Airport. Although the rain cut our trip short, the students had a great time.

In the classroom, students are concentrating on expository text and finding facts in language arts. In math, they have been introduced to nonstandard measurement. In science, the students are exploring plants and their parts. In social studies, they are focusing on procedures and decision making.

Fourth-grade news

Fourth-grade students will begin writing a persuasive paper in class. They will try to convince their teacher of an opinion they feel strongly about.

Students will also begin reading the novel “Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing.” They will have literary circles to discuss many concepts in the story.

In science, fourth-graders have just finished learning about inherited and learned traits. They are now looking at ecosystems and food chains and food webs. Students are seeing the flow of energy from the sun to everything they eat. They created their own food webs using pictures cut from magazines.  After this unit, students will learn about animal adaptations and life cycles.

Fourth-grade students will be studying modern Texas from 1950 to present. They will learn about the advances in technology and how it has influenced the social, economic and political growth of Texas. They will also learn about the diverse cultural makeup of the states and the important celebrations and contributions of these groups. Students will also learn about our state government and democracy.
