Bobcats, Lady Cats run well at district track meet

GEORGE WEST – The Skidmore-Tynan Bobcat track teams were in high gear last weekend at the District 31-2A track meet.

The boys’ varsity squad finished fourth overall with 70 points while the George West Longhorns captured the overall team trophy with 155 points. Mathis was second at 115, and San Diego placed third with 113 points.

The Lady Cats also finished fourth overall with 68 points. The Lady ’Horns took the top spot with 151 points while Odem (113) and Mathis (107) were second and third in the district standings.

Boys’ results

In the triple jump, Erasmo Huerta captured the gold with his first place leap of 40-2. Esequiel Huerta placed third in the long jump, covering 20-7.25 feet. Jonathan Hernandez placed third in the discus with a throw of 120 feet.

Hernandez then came back and ran to a fourth place finish in the tough 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:09.29. Hernandez was also fourth in the 1,600-meter run in 5:01.84.

The 800-meter relay team of Bobcats (names not provided) placed fourth with a time of 1:35.08. The Bobcat 1,600-meter relay foursome captured second place with a good time of 3:34.77.

Girls’ results

In the triple jump, Misty Martin was third with a leap of 31-11. Martin also placed third in the long jump with a good 15-1 effort. Erica Nevarez was second in the discus with a throw of 92-8. The 400-meter relay squad (no names provided) placed fifth in 53.93. Misty Martin was third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.40.

In the 200-meter dash, Reagan Crittenden captured the gold medal with a first place time of 27.11. Kayla DeLeon was fourth in the same event in 28.21. The 1,600-meter relay team placed fourth with a 4:33.71 clocking.
