The big inning broke up a 0-0 scoreboard. Kenedy got one run back in the third, but the Lady Eagles answered with a single run of their own in the fourth.
The Leopards loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth with no outs, but the Pettus defense and pitching stepped up and avoided any damage to their lead. Lady Eagle hurler Hana Kruger got the next batter to pop up to catcher Ashlynn Schauer for the first out of the inning. Kruger then struck out the next Leopard batter for the second out of the frame. Another pop up ended the threat as shortstop Tristian Moore made the play and recorded the third out to maintain the 8-1 margin for the Lady Eagles.
The Kenedy girls did not fold and made a game of it with two runs in each of the next two innings to pull within three runs at 8-5 with one inning yet to be played. The Lady Eagles tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh, and Kruger did her job in the seventh, blanking the Leopards to preserve the 9-5 victory.
Moore went 1-3 with a double and one run scored. Kruger collected one hit in four official trips to the plate, scored one run and knocked in two runs for her team. Ashlyn Schauer collected one RBI on a sacrifice. Destiny Carrillo was 3-4 in the game with a triple and two runs scored. Madi Garza also went 3-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Blanca Prieto reached on an error and a walk and scored one run. Brittany Treviño was one for four at the plate with two RBI’s and a run scored. Leigh Martindale was a perfect 2-2 with a double, one RBI and one run scored in the win.
The Lady Eagles were at home on Thursday night to host the Falls City Beaverettes.
