“The Lady Trojans did a great job coming together and playing for a win,” said JV coach Alan Burkett.
It was the pitching of Ciara Garcia and the entire team’s defense and hitting that did the trick for the A.C. Jones High girls. They got two runs in the first three innings against the Wildcat hurlers and then topped the game off with a four-run fourth inning.
Calallen mustered one run in the top of the fourth but went scoreless against Garcia in the fifth. The time limit expired at that point and the Lady Trojan JV captured the 10-1 victory.
Garcia was excellent in the circle on Friday night. Of the 15 outs recorded by the Lady Trojans, 14 of them were strikeouts as Garcia overpowered the visitors with a good mix of fastball, rises and change-ups.
Garcia also led the home team at the plate with a line drive two-run home run in the fourth inning. Caitlyn Ortiz collected two hits in the contest and two RBI’s on the night. Samantha Salazar also came through with two hits and a run batted in for Beeville. Lorena Rosales recorded two singles while Deseree Rivas collected a double and a single. Marivel Posada doubled late in the fourth inning. Garcia had two hits, including the big round-tripper. Teresa Treviño and Gabby Puente (double) also hit safely in the game.
Beeville played at Tuloso-Midway on Tuesday night and then will travel to Gregory-Portland on Thursday evening.
