Two of the Woodsboro High School girls powerlifters are heading to state on March. 21, at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi.

Junior Samantha Lopez qualified by lifting a total of 735 lbs at the regional meet last week.

Lopez is no stranger at the state meet. She will return for the second year in a row. Last year Samantha finished fourth in her weight class.

Chelsea Simpson will also be making a return appearance at the state meet. Chelsea brings in a 665 lb. total from the regional meet. The powerlifter has lifted 690 lbs total so far this year.

“I am very excited and proud of the accomplishments these two young women have completed so far and I expect more great things from both of them.” said Coach Jerry Howell, head powerlifting coach.

Three Eagle lifters will compete at the regional meet in Kingsville on Saturday, March 14, at the J.K. Northway Coliseum.

Josh Fierova and Ernest Yanez have earned the right to advance, along with Ray Lopez also can compete as an alternate.
