The 2012 Missions Tour de Goliad organizers are expecting more than 400 riders to compete in Saturday’s event.
Approximately 300 people had registered for the event by Monday, according to administrative assistant Bonnee Riggs. Last year’s 393 entrants were an all-time high for the event. Riggs said Monday that organizers are expecting 500 to be registered by the start of the ride.
Riggs said volunteers are still needed to assist with the event. According to Goliad County Chamber of Commerce executive director Mona Foust, the one-day event is expected to bring $42,000 to $50,000 to the local economy.
Riders can register the day of the race for $40. Pre-registration, which is $35 for individuals and $30 for family members, ends Wednesday. The ride starts at 8 a.m. Saturday.
Packets can be picked up Friday between 6 and 8 p.m. at 450 S. Market St. for pre-registered riders. The ride includes 10-, 30-, 50-, and 85-mile routes. For information, call the Goliad County Chamber of Commerce at 645-3563.
