JV girls cross country team wins Skidmore meet

The Karnes City High School Cross Country teams have one more practice meet to go before District Oct. 23, and on Saturday, the runners made a convincing show at Skidmore. The JV girls took the meet championship, as did the junior high girls.

The varsity girls won 3rd as a team overall, with Freshman Jordan Garcez winning 6th and medaling as well as Sophomore Kristina Sauceda placing 10th and medaling. Sophomore Clara Gotthardt won 24th, Senior Courtney Garcez placed 17th and Sophomore Madie Walter was 34th.

In the varsity boys division. Juniors Jeremy Coronado medaled with his 7th place finish and Chris Tobar placed 9th to earn a medal. Junior Ari Lopez came in 22nd.

For the JV girls’ team, Freshman Emily Valdez placed 6th, Sophomore Savannah Segura followed at 7th, Freshman Elena Valdez came in 8th, Senior Dominique Garcez placed 9th, and Senior Hailey Johnson rounded out the medals at 10th. Sophomore Jade Gonzales was not far before with her 12th place finish.

For the JV boys, Senior Rodney Foreman medaled with his 6th place finish, and Freshman Edmond Valdez earned a medal with his 8th place finish.

At the junior high level, the seventh-grader girls won the meet and had four medalists. Kendall Kelley topped all runners with a 1st place gold medal, while Katia Cavazos won 4th, Tara Coronado placed 6th and Abigail Franke finished 10th. Jenny Steward placed 13th and Haleigh Kunschik got 16th.

For the junior high boys, eighth-grader Kyler Palmer was a 10th place medalist, and seventh-graders Jacob Coffman won the meet with 1st and Brent Gisler followed at 3rd.

Teams the Badgers and Lady Badgers faced included Skidmore, Pettus, Sinton, Rockport, Skidmore, Orange Grove, Robstown, Yoakum, Mathis, George West, Agua Dulce and Kenedy.

The Badgers and Lady Badgers travel to Poth this Saturday for their last practice meet before district.
