Leopards in the running for district playoffs

The Kenedy Leopards’ Volleyball team finished the first round of district play with a record of 4-2. The team beat Pettus, Austwell-Tivoli, Nordheim, and Runge loosing only to Yorktown and Woodsboro.

The Leopards started the second round of district play at home on October 2 with a very close 5 game match against Pettus. The Leopards won the first game 26 to 24, but dropped the next two games with scores of 25 to 23 and 25 to 13. The Leopard team rallied to win the fourth game forcing the fifth game. The Leopard team won the fifth game tie breaker with a score of 16 to 14.

Saren Sutton and Teryn Schmidt lead the team in kills with nine a piece. Karly Nichols was next with seven kills. Jacki Zapata and Lauren Hernandez had three kills each. Schmidt, Zapata and Becca Brown had 3 aces a piece. Last Lillie Vickery lead the team with 15 digs.

The Leopards also had another victory this week at home on October 5th against Austwell-Tivoli. Kenedy won the match in three games with scores being: 25 to 10, 25 to 19, and 25 to 16.

The team was lead in kills by Karly Nichols with seven. Teryn Schmidt had four kills, followed by Lauren Hernandez with three, Saren Sutton with two, and Jackie Zapata and Becca Brown with one each. Schmidt had six aces and Lillie Vickery lead the team again in digs with ten.

The Kenedy Leopards are 6-2 in district play rolling full steam ahead for the playoffs including big must win games against Yorktown and Woodsboro.
