The B team won 22-0 and then in the nightcap, the A squad bounced the Brahmas 28-0. It was the home opener for both Moreno teams.
The Trojan B team set the tone for the night as Quarterback AJ Gomez threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Brent Romine. Kyle Villareal and AJ Gomez also added a touchdown of their own.
The offensive line and the defense also drew praise from the coaches.
“We got great blocks from Trey Jaure, Donald Shreve, Brady Campos and Michael Carbajal. The defense stepped up and put together a shutout for the second week in a row,” said coach Ruben Lopez.
The defensive charge was led by Alan Bridge, Marcus Perez and Bryan Gaitan.
The 8A team was led by fullback Dustin Torres and quarterback Nick Gonzales. Torres led the team in yards with 12 carries for 77 yards and a touchdown. Michael Virata, Nick Gonzales and Matthew Guerra also scored against a tough Braham defense.
The “O” line helped pave the way with great blocks by Jessie Gutierrez, John Ross Carbajal, RJ Gonzales, Rudy Casarez and Kaden Morin.
The Trojan defense was causing the Brahmas to make a lot of mistakes, creating five turnovers on the night.
“These kids are understanding that defense is supposed to be fun. They made it fun tonight and when you’re having fun and being physical, you win ball games,” Lopez said.
The good defensive effort was led by Byron Barrera, Kaden Morin Jordan Cantu, Bryan Reyna and Koltan Wright.
The teams remain at home next Tuesday night with games against the Port Lavaca boys.
