The first quarter saw the Yellow Jackets score twice as Dylan Torres opened things up with a 15-yard rushing touchdown, with Ryan Saucedo’s kick putting the score at 7-0. Saucedo was a perfect 7 for 7 on extra point attempts in the game. The second score of the quarter came on the legs of Rob Molina as he scored on a 3-yard run to help put the lead at 14-0. The second quarter saw the Yellow Jackets keep up the pace. Jason Medina started things off by capping a Runge drive with a 1-yard run, helping to put the score at 21-0. During a Leakey possession, Jeric Esparza intercepted a pass attempt and took it to the house for a 27-yard pick-six to put the lead at 28-0. The Yellow Jackets’ final score of the first half was a lengthy one as Molina scored on a 52-yard touchdown run to help extend the lead to 35-0 at halftime. Both of Runge’s second half scores came in the third quarter, the first on a 6-yard run by Molina and the second on a 3-yard run by Eric Gutierrez. The fourth quarter saw the Yellow Jackets run out the clock to ensure the 49-0 score remained intact.
Statistically, the Yellow Jackets gained 420 yards of total offense with 400 yards rushing over 40 attempts and 20 yards passing on one pass attempt and completion. With the victory, the Yellow Jackets are the only team in Karnes County to remain undefeated, though Wallace is not surprised. “We knew we were going to be better,” said Wallace. “It’s kind of what we expected to be at this time.”
This week, the Yellow Jackets will host the Medina Bobcats for their Homecoming game. “They’re a spread team, one of the true spread teams we’ll face all year” said Wallace about the Bobcats. “They’re going to stretch us and challenge our defense.” Kickoff in Runge is set for Friday, September 28 at 7:30 p.m.
