School personnel and the entire STCHM campus look forward to the luncheon each year.
“We go back about 20 years in celebrating what Pettus ISD does for our STCHM students and staff,” said Mark Childs, STCHM vice president of child care. “We try to show that appreciation every summer during in-service week by providing a meal and a time for them to come out to the campus and relax with our kids and staff.
“Many of the teachers understand where our kids come from and what their needs are. They go above and beyond for our kids. It’s a heartfelt thing, and it shows. And at a time in the students’ lives when they truly need a strong relationship with an adult, the coaches really step up and serve as great mentors for our kids, as do many of the teachers. We cannot express enough what that means to us.”
Childs added that, from the administrator’s office down, the children’s home has enjoyed great relationships with school personnel over the years.
“A unique and special partnership has come together between Pettus ISD and South Texas Children’s Home Ministries,” Childs said, “to advocate for our kids and meet their needs. And we do not take that for granted.”
