REFUGIO — Catch of a Lifetime, was the theme of the annual Refugio County 4-H Awards Banquet attended by 80 4-H supporters at the Expo Center on Aug. 5.

Among the distinguished guests were County Commissioners Gary Bourland, Stanley Tuttle and Rod Bernal; Stephen Maldonado, principal of Austwell-Tivoli High School; Donnie Montemayor, District 11’s Extension Administrator; and Madalyn Kainer, guest speaker.

Lacie Beall, council president, and Dalton Klare, vice-president welcomed the guests.

Special certificates of recognition were presented to the six 4-H club managers including Kellie Beall, Melody Payne, Sherry Myers, Debbie Sternadel, Donnie Montemayor and Angie Ruddock.

Outstanding achievement awards were presented to Madalynn Nixon, MaKayala Havens, Marissa Garcia, Teah Camacho, Ryan Speis and Holley Nelson - received 4-H Jacket Awards.

Marcus Salinas received the Ed Stratmann Award; and Taylor Nixon and Ti Beall, outstanding intermediate award; Madalynn Nixon and Dalton Klare, the I Dare You Award; Dalton Klare and McKayla Ramos, Gold Star Awards; and Christopher Payne, the $1,000 Cletis Dulin Memorial Scholarship and the $500 4-H Booster Scholarship.

The 2011-2012 4-H Queen Cecilia Bauer presented the crown and sash to this year’s queen, McKayla Ramos.

Members who were recognized for their achievements throughout the 4-H year include Jonathan Havens, Lia Hernandez, Liann Hernandez, Joseph Montemayor, Kellie Ressmann and Kate Ruddock, juniors; Ti Beall, Teach Comacho, Marissa Garcia, Kyra Klare, Adam Lewis, Kodye Neel and Reagan Ruddock, intermediate; Cecilia Bauer, Lacie Beall, MaKayla Havens, Loryn Hernandez, Morgan Klavermann, Dalton Klare, Kayse McCool, H.C. Neel, McKayla Ramos, and Derek Ressmann, senior.

Pre-4-H Members who completed projects include Presleigh Barber, Madaline Braman, Kasadi Neel, Tera Rosas and Justin Speis.

Fifty-one members submitted record books and received medals. The Refugio 4-H Council recognized adult volunteers with the Friend of 4-H Award which was presented to Mr. and Mrs. Bubba Wiginton and Mr. and Mrs. David Mundine.

The county 4-H council installed new officers for the 2012-2013 year including Dalton Klare, president; Lacie Beall, vice-president; Cecilia Bauer, secretary; Kayse McCool, treasurer; Madalynn Nixon, reporter; Morgan Klavermann, parliamentarian; and H.C. Neel, district delegate.

The 2012-2013 4-H Ambassadors include Dalton Klare, H.C. Neel Lacie Beall, Courtney Myers, Kayse McCool, Madalynn Nixon, Conner Payne , Cameron Sternadel, Logan Myers, McKayla Ramos, Cecilia Bauer, Morgan Klavermann, MaKayla Havens, Regan Ruddock, Marissa Garcia, Megan Simmons.

Lacie Beall ended the evening.

“We have recognized and celebrated our success for the 2011-2012 4-H year,” Beall said. “We have 134 active 4-H members enrolled, 38 active adult leaders, over 20 different self led projects, 51 record books turned in for county, 17 competed on the district level, one advanced to state, 154 youth that participated in the livestock show, 25 participated in the Expo Building, and 20 Pre-4-H’ers entered the livestock show. We through our lines out this year and made some big catches!”
