The annual Kenedy Bluebonnet Days Festival celebrates the arrival of spring and the beautiful bluebonnets and other wildflowers that decorate the local area.
Local residents and visitors are all welcomed to the annual event.
Bluebonnet Days Queen Brandy Ornelas and members of the Bluebonnet Days Royal Court, Candice Ornelas, Yvette “Trina” Almanza, Nayeli Rangel and Damon Rosales will be onhand to welcome visitors to Kenedy’s annual event.
The Bluebonnet Days Cookoff will get underway with setup at noon on Friday, May 11 at Joe Gulley Park. Later that evening, at 7 p.m., the Margarita Contest will get underway.
On Saturday morning, May 12, at 7 a.m. the 5K Run will get started and at 7:30 a.m. the Kenedy Rotary Club Pancake Breakfast will happen at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
Later that morning, the traditional downtown parade that passes along Main Street in Kenedy will begin at 11 a.m. and typically lasts about an hour. Watch for the Miss Bluebonnet Days Queen and Court riding atop the Bluebonnet Days Float as well as numerous other floats, bands and other parade entries.
Following the parade, local folks and visitors will stream out to Joe Gulley Park for the all-day-long festival.
Arts crafts and food vendors will be set up from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Ballet Folklorico will perform from 1 p.m. To 2 p.m.
The Cookoff starts at 8 a.m. and runs through 3:30 p.m. with the awards presentation happening at 4:30 p.m.
Games and rides will be available for visitors to enjoy from noon to 6 p.m.
DJ Matthew Garza will provide entertainment from noon to 6 p.m.
Visitors are welcome to bring their own ice chests this year to the 2012 Bluebonnet Days Festival.
