The Three Rivers 7th and 8th grade Bulldogs took runner-up honors at this past weekend’s annual Bulldog Junior High Tournament. In the first round game for the 8th graders, the Bulldogs came out of the gate running and scored 40 first half points against Orange Grove. The Bulldogs went on to defeat Orange Grove 50-12 to advance in the winners bracket.

Paul Almandarez lead the scoring attack with 25 points, Levi Fulcher had 14 points, Adam Valdez had six points and Ivan Rodriguez had four points. Fidel Luna also had three assists and caused four turnovers in a great defensive effort.

The Bulldogs played George West for the championship game and came up short 40-18. With only five players all day, and injury to Fulcher in the second half of the championship game forced the Bulldogs to play with four, but the boys never gave up.

Fulcher lead the Bulldogs with eight points in the championship game, Alamandarez had four, Rodriguez had three, Valdez had two, and Luna had one point.

The 7th grade Bulldogs defeated George West blue team in the first round 19-8, then lost to the George West white team in the championship game. Stats were unavailable for the 7th grade teams at press time. The Bulldogs will travel to Natalia this Thursday at 5 p.m.
