A 43-year-old man was expected to be flown to an area hospital by HALO-Flight helicopter after his 1998 Mitsubishi sedan crashed into a guard rail just south of Pettus early Thursday afternoon. Highway Patrol Trooper Lyle Cram said Robert Lee Noriega was southbound on U.S. Highwasy 181 when he apparently went to sleep at the wheel, drifted to the right and struck the rail. Cram said alcohol may have been a factor in the accident. Noriega suffered a laceration to his left arm in the collision.
