The local ladies had things going their way early as it was a 2-1 game after two innings. The Beeville girls scored one run in each of the first two frames while allowing an Odem run in the bottom of the second.
Rebecca De Los Santos led off the game for Beeville and reached on an error. A sacrifice bunt from Rani Camacho put De Los Santos at second and the leadoff hitter then stole third to get into even better scoring position. A passed ball allowed De Los Santos to cross the plate for the early 1-0 lead.
Beeville got their second run on another Odem error as Alyssa Bates reached safely. A stolen base and another wild pitch or passed ball brought Bates in for the 2-0 lead. Odem made it a 2-1 contest much the same way. An error and a couple of passed balls brought in the Odem run.
The Beeville girls opened things up a little more in the top of the fourth. Brianna Gobel led off with a hard hit single with Bates following with another base hit which scored Gobel. De Los Santos then earned a walk and Bates scored on the throw back to the pitcher after the pitch as Odem was caught napping. Beeville’s other two runs were scored by De Los Santos and Mari Gonzales with a little help from a fielder’s choice off the bat of Mackenzie De La Garza.
The four run outburst put the Beeville girls in front 6-1 at the end of four innings.
Odem rallied in the bottom of the fifth for three runs to pull closer and make a game out of it. A single and an error along with a fielder’s choice and a bloop double put the three runs across the plate for Odem off Beeville pitcher Ciara Garcia who came in to relieve starter Jasmine Soliz in the third frame. The score after five innings had the Beeville girls holding a 6-4 margin.
The Beeville bats were quiet through the sixth and Odem edged even closer with a single run in the bottom of the sixth to get within 6-5. A one-out walk and a couple of errors produced the run for Odem.
The Beeville girls got an insurance run in the top of the seventh as Soliz worked her way on with a walk. Soliz then moved around the bases on a couple of bad throws on Odem’s part. The scoreboard read 7-5 entering the final at-bats for Odem.
Garcia was still on the mound and had her best inning in the circle in the seventh. Garcia struck out the first batter and then allowed a slow roller to second for out number two. A second strikeout finished off the Odem squad and preserved the 7-5 Beeville victory.
