U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, issued the following statement Wednesday in recognition of National Day of Prayer, which was observed Thursday, May 5:

“On this National Day of Prayer, I join Texans in giving thanks for the many blessings we often take for granted. I give thanks for my freedom and for the selfless service of our men and women in uniform, past and present, that has made it possible. I pray for the families of our fallen heroes, including those who lost loved ones on Sept. 11, 2001. I pray for healing for the sick and for new opportunity for the millions of Americans looking for work. I pray for strengthened families, protection for the most vulnerable and a brighter future for our next generation. May God bless Texas and may God bless America.”
