Friday night April 29th the Kenedy Lions played the Charlotte Trojans in a warm up baseball game between two teams in the state 1A playoffs. Charlotte was the second place team from district 30A and Kenedy was the third place team from district 31A. Rolie Zepeda would take the hill for the Lions in the start and pitch two scoreless innings. Rhett Bell would pitch the next two innings and give up 1 unearned run in the fourth. Tristan Mejia would pitch the fifth inning and also give up 1 unearned run. Jason Medina would pitch a scoreless sixth inning. Isaac Cruz would finish the game and give up 2 unearned runs. The Lions would take the lead in the game as Jake Havron would score in the first inning. The Lions would take the lead back in the fourth inning scoring 4 runs as Lane Gaskamp, Eddie Villarreal, Rolie Zepeda, and Jake Havron would all cross home plate to give the Lions a 5-1 lead. Going into the sixth inning the Lions led 5-2 and would score 2 more runs as Havron and Bell would each cross home plate to give the Lions a 7-2 lead going into the seventh inning. Havron would lead the way for the Lions going 2 for 3 with three runs scored with 2 rbi’s. Bell would go 2 for 4 with a 2B, 3B, run scored and 2 rbi’s. Gaskamp would also go 2 for 4 with a run scored. Mejia would go 1 for 4 with a rbi. With the 7-4 win the Lions record is now 16-9 on the year and will play their first round bi-district playoff against Benavides.
The Lions will face Benavides in George West on Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m. Sat at 1 p.m. if needed. Ticket prices will be $4 for adults and $2 for students.
