The Bobcats met up with Hebbronville in Bishop for the Bi-District showdown Tuesday, Feb. 22. The Cats came out furious as they took a quick 8-0 lead. As the Longhorns began to settle down, they were able to fight their way back into the game. A last second shot in the first quarter gave the Longhorns a 14-13 lead to end the period.

In the second quarter, the Bobcats had a little trouble with the half court pressure from the Longhorns and fell behind at half 21-24. The Bobcats have overcome adversity all year as they have had to win games coming from behind to get into post season play. This game was turning out to be the same. Brett Davis hit a quick shot to cut the Longhorn lead to 1. However, the Longhorns got some big help from #10 off the bench in this quarter as he was able to score 10 points in the third quarter alone.

The Cats found themselves going into the fourth quarter down 28-36. Unfortunately, this time the Cats were not able to overcome the deficit as only 4 points were scored in the fourth quarter. Hebbronville was able to hang on for the win as they beat Refugio 48-32. Leading scorers for the Cats were Brett Davis with 14, Tanner Myers with 8, Cristian Padron and Ruben Ramirez had 3, Jeff Soto and Aaron Perez each had 2 points as well.

“I would like to say thank you to all of those who have supported these young men this year and to these young men for all the hard work they have put into this and how far they have come”, said Coach Boxell.

“I am very proud of them as they have done everything I have asked as a coach. In the eight team district these young men were counted out before the season ever began. So again, thank you, Tanner Myers, Aaron Perez, Ruben Ramirez, Jeff Soto, Cristian Padron, Brett Davis, Eugenio Hernandez, and Josh Alsop.”

The Bobcats have finished their district season with a 9-5 record and earned a spot in the Texas State High School Basketball play-offs.

The Bobcats held their last home game of the season on Friday night against the Taft Greyhounds. The first quarter, the Bobcats trailed 15-13 in a game that had playoff implications for both teams. The Cats came back to take a 21-19 lead into halftime. A big 3rd quarter gave the Bobcats a lead that would not be taken away. The Bobcats scored 18 pts to take a 39-29 lead. The fourth quarter, the Cats were able to hold off a surge by the Greyhounds and get the win 51-45.
