The Victoria East Titans dominated in a 69-33 win.
Victoria’s defense was very good throughout and held the Trojans to just three first period points. The Titans turned the Beeville turnovers and missed shots into points and led 24-3 after one period.
The Trojans hit for 13 second period points but the Titans still added to their lead with a 21-point output to head into halftime in front, 45-16.
The Trojans again scored in double figures over the third period with 11 markers and held the Titans to nine. It was still a comfortable Titan lead at 55-27.
The Titans slashed for 14 fourth quarter points while holding the Beeville boys to six.
“To the kids’ credit, we were down a bunch at half, but we came out and held them to 11 points in the third quarter and kept trying to fight back, but we had dug ourselves too deep of a hole. We cannot afford to continue this pattern of play and expect to win ball games,” said head coach Mike Luce.
“We work in practice on this but have trouble transferring it to game and until we can we will continue to struggle.”
The Trojans got nine points from guard John Camacho. Brooks Holder followed with seven and Chet Sparks hit for five. Edwin Rhodes and Jeffery Stafford each contributed four. Felix Morales and Conner Shears made two apiece.
The Trojans played at home on Tuesday night as the Floresville Tigers were in town. On Friday night, the Trojans will hit the road to Port Lavaca to tangle with the Sandcrabs.
