The host Sinton Pirates wasted little time in showing the Skidmore-Tynan Bobcats who would be in control of the first game of the Sinton Rotary Classic Basketball tournament on Monday morning. The Pirates ran off an 8-0 start and coasted in for a 74-29 win over the Bobcats.

Sinton led 20-6 at the end of one period with all six Bobcat points coming from post Conner McCarn. The teams played fairly evenly over the next eight minutes with the Pirates capturing the second quarter 13-8 to take a 33-14 lead into the intermission.

The Pirates came out hot in the third period and scorched the nets for 25 points on some fine outside shooting. The Sinton defense was also wide awake, holding the Bobcats to just three points in the third period. That made it a 58-17 game going into the final eight minutes.

The Bobcats hit for 12 in the final quarter while the host Pirates recorded 16 to make it a 74-29 victory.

McCarn led the Bobcat scoring with 12 points. Jordan Carter followed with two long-range jumpers for six tallies. Zach Hall hit for five points in the loss and Zach Mengers recorded four. Jonathan Murphey closed out the S-T scoring with a second half basket.

The Bobcats played a consolation bracket contest at 3:30 p.m. Monday and then had one contest on Tuesday morning. Those stories should be available for Friday’s edition.

The Bobcats will play host to the Port Aransas Marlins on Jan. 6. The JV game will be at 5 p.m. with the varsity boys taking the floor at 8 p.m.

In Monday’s second game for the Bobcats, they ran up against a tough Hondo Owl team and were defeated 53-23. The Bobcats were short-handed in this tournament and are still making adjustments prior to their district schedule. The S-T Bobcats begin district play on Jan. 16 when the Taft Greyhounds come to Skidmore.
