There will be a meeting of the Karnes County Historical Society at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2 at 216 West Main, (Sue Carter’s office) in Kenedy.

The society has a lot to discuss and plan at this meeting. The roof and gutter work has been completed on the Ruckman House and work will begin to restore the north side as was done on the front.

The historical society has been awarded a Volunteer Grant from ConocoPhillips for electrical work at the museum. The society appreciates receiving this grant and are hopeful the work can be completed this fall in time for Indian Summer Days.

Indian Summer Days will be Oct. 25 this year in Helena. The Bandera Cowboys are returning and will reenact historic gunfights from the area. There will be other entertainment, food and vendors. Plans are underway for this event.

Hope to see you at the next meeting, Monday, Aug. 25 for discussion of these and other projects. Stay in touch by calling the museum at 830-780-3210 or Sue Carter at 210-710-4896. You may also send an e-mail to Sue at and check out the website at:
