“We know that in everything God works for good with those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose.”
The miracle working power of God becomes obvious, not in His intervention between us and our sufferings, though some of us can bear witness to such apparent divine interventions in our lives, but in the amazing way in which “God works for good with those who love Him….” We can all testify how some of the terrible things that have happened to us became events or instruments which truly did work for good, drawing us closer to God or serving to accomplish His purposes in and through us. Paul believed that God was with him and would work through him whatever the circumstances that pressed in upon him, and he tells us to “give thanks in all circumstances” (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
Of this we can be sure: God is with us whatever happens on our daily course through this life. Not only that, but He is able and ready to work out His purposes in and through even the tragic events of our lives. When we hurt, God hurts; such is His love for us, even if He does not intervene to shield us from tragedies. He promises to stay close to us, to help us to cope, and to use our suffering as well as our joys to accomplish His purpose in and through our lives.
