William David “Bill” Slaughter, age 85, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014, in Victoria, Texas. He was born in Kenedy, Texas on December 28, 1928, to the late Elvin M. Slaughter and Josie Lee Puckett Slaughter. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and achieved the rank of Sergeant. After his return home he worked for Halliburton and Welex. In 1959 Bill became a law enforcement officer for the city of Victoria and retired after 25 years of service. He also was a rancher in Karnes County. He was a member of First English Lutheran Church. His interests were fishing, hunting, coaching Little League Baseball and Pee Wee football, and attending motorcycle races.

Bill is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mildred Janssen Slaughter; sons, Ricky (Diane Watkins-Slaughter) Slaughter of Midland, Michigan, and Jerry Slaughter of Victoria; three grandchildren, Ryan Slaughter and Jared Slaughter of Victoria, and Anna Slaughter Wamack (David) of Midland, Michigan; his sister, Margaret “Peggy” Graham of Austin, Texas.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, J. M. Slaughter and Milton E. Slaughter.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Rosewood Funeral Chapels.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Monday, March 31, 2014, at First English Lutheran Church, Rev. Jim Pearson officiating. Burial with full military honors under the auspices of the Victoria Veterans Council will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Wallace Graham, Jr., Robert Graham, Eric Moede, Milton Slaughter, Jr., Michael Slaughter and Ryan Slaughter.
