Karnes City High School art students were represented in the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Western Art Competition this year by twenty-three pieces of art. They had three first place finishes, five second place winners and the rest were awarded third place. The first place winners are all eligible to interview for a three week workshop at the Kerrville Western Art Museum.

Matthew Sanchez was a top fifty winner. Although his drawing will not be auctioned, it will be framed and placed on display with the other top fifty winners at the prestigious Briscoe Western Art Museum downtown San Antonio starting on January 7 and remain there until the end of the rodeo.

Below are the winners and the titles to their work. There were 434 entries to the contest this year.

Third Place: Michael Cochran, “Momentos From The Past”; Sydney Janysek, “Cowboys At Rest”; Katelyn Villarreal, “Vamos Viajar en el Tractor, Hijo”; Brandon Harrin, “I Thought My Owner Loved Me”; Ty Burson, “Peine al Caballo”; Kristen Luna, “Hard Head”John Lopez, “Bygone Dead”; Nolan Janysek,“Death in the Light of a Cowboy”; Cameo Crabtree, “Early Morning Chores”; Gabby Franco, “Heyyyy!”; Shelby Helms, “Reining With Southern Pride”; Shannon Hons, “A Little Cowgirl’s Best Friend”; Brandy Portillo, “A Texas Belle”s Companion”; Hana Ochoa, “Cowgirls Don’t Cry, They Pout”; Cameron Cerny, “The Cowboy’s Ride”.
