Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen The Lord's Prayer says it all in concise form.

In the sermon at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Runge, Pastor Bruno stressed the part of the Lord's Prayer about forgiveness. He also used the Gospel lesson from Luke 7:36-8:3 about the sinful woman who Jesus forgave and who was joyful and so grateful that she "wet his feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head and kissed his feet and anointed them with the ointment." This woman's faith is what saved her. In contrast the Pharisee Simon paid little attention to Jesus and was quick to judge this sinful woman and takes no notice of her generosity or her willingness to serve Jesus. Jesus moves our attention from the sin of the woman to the generosity of God, who forgives more abundantly than we can imagine.

Just as Jesus forgives our sins when we confess them and ask for forgiveness, we are to do likewise. It is difficult for us humans to let go of things that others have done against us, but until we do, we will live with that bitterness and resentment. The only way to heal your heart is to ask that your sins be forgiven and to forgive those who have sinned against you. Let your faith in Jesus Christ save you.
