I must respond to Mr. Larry Stewart’s letter to the editor in the Jan. 23 edition of the Karnes Countywide.

I had been the executor director for the Kenedy Chamber of Commerce since April 2001 until my retirement on Dec. 31, 2012.

I was well aware that the board would put an ad in the paper to fill my position at that time (Jan. 2 and Jan. 9).

I am very proud of the chamber and the progress it has made under my leadership in the last 12 years.

I think you could ask the people of Kenedy, Karnes County, many South Texas counties, I-1O corridor, TCBRTC, Texas Settlement Region, AACOG, Texas Indepence Trail Region and many smaller organizations how much the Chamber and I are respected.

I along with great board members through the years brought the Chamber from an office that offered phone books and maps to a true Chamber of Commerce as well as a Tourism Center.

The Chamber has always reached out to all businesses and individuals.

We have spent the last three plus years reaching out to the Eagle Ford Shale and related business in many different areas, our current board reflects that.

We have three board members working for Eagle Ford Shale companies, two working in direct contact with those companies, the other four are in areas working indirectly but affecting the shale workers though the schools, hospital, churches and city services.

Our Chamber and community are growing by leaps and bounds daily and true enough it has been a struggle to keep up with such a fast moving change to our small community.

The Chamber continues to strive to meet all needs that everyone has (businesses and individuals) in our community.

I have never had the pleasure of meeting you Mr. Stewart, but I look forward to meeting you in the future. I welcome you to attend the board meetings held on the third Tuesday of each month, and to join the Chamber, and become an active member in our community.

Carolyn McDonald
