Goliad boys, girls sweep area track and field titles

CONVERSE – The Goliad Tigers and Tigerettes swept the team titles at Wednesday's District 29-2A/30-2A area track and field meet at Rutledge Stadium.

The top four finishers in each event advanced to the Region IV-2A meet April 25 and 26 at Rutledge Stadium.

The Tigerettes rolled to the team title with 164 points. San Antonio Cole was second with 92.

The Tigers compiled 114 points. Refugio was runner-up with 70.

Goliad's Ashtin Zamzow won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.43 seconds, barely edging out teammate Katy Salziger, who crossed the finish in second with a 15.95. Zamzow and Salziger also finished in the same order in the 300 hurdles with Zamzow crossing in 46.27 and Salziger in 48.07.

Zamzow ran the second leg on the winning 1,600 relay team with Kendall Coles, Danielle Garza and Michala Janssen. The foursome finished in 4:06.70. Garza earlier won the 800 in 2:29.22

Goliad's Cortnee Priour won the long jump with a mark of 17 feet, 6 inches and Zamzow was fourth with a 17-7. Priour also qualified with a fourth-place finish in the triple jump (34-5 1/4).

Carlee Howard, Roxanne Morris, Alexius Perry and Priour teamed for second in the 800 relay with a time of 1:47.60.

Howard tied for second in the pole vault by clearing 9 feet and Perry was second in the 200 with a time of 26.99.

Coles took second in the 400 (1:01.74) and Janssen followed in third (1:01.76).

Jalissa Clemons took third in the discus with a throw of 98-8.

Andrea Delagarza was third in the 1,600 (5:52.23) and fourth in the 3,200 (12:45.82).

Other Tigerettes qualifying for the regional meet were Caitlin Cope, who was fourth in the high jump (4-10) and Marina Mendoza, who was fourth in the shot put (32-3).

Goliad's Marla Reyna was sixth in the 1,600 (6:06.24) and fifth in the 3,200 (13:09.61).

In the boys division, Goliad's Colby Zamzow won the 400 in 52.39 and ran legs on the Tigers' runner-up 400 and 1,600 relay teams. Zamzow was also third in the long jump (20-0 1/2). Trey Moya, Richard Fullingim and Isaiah Dennis combined with Zamzow for a time of 44.07 in the 400 relay and Logan Muehlstein, Moya and Dalton Sturm teamed with Zamzow for a 3:30.53 in the 1,600 relay.

Sturm won the 300 hurdles in 41.83 and was third in the high jump by clearing 6 feet. John Von Dohlen took the 3,200 (10:11.69) and was second in the 1,600 (4:39.16). Moya was third in the 300 hurdles in 42.87.

Goliad's Carl Roy was second in the high jump (6-2) and long jump (20-2) and teammate Steven Koehne qualified in the 110 hurdles with a fourth-place time of 16.53.

The Tigers' Jake Schneider was fifth in the 1,600 (4:47.73). Caleb Vaughn, Colby Berger, Dennis and Orion Hosey combined for fifth in the 800 relay with a time of 1:33.37.
