PALACIOS – The Goliad boys and girls both raced to victories Wednesday at the District 30-2A Cross Country Championships.

The Tigers and Tigerettes advanced to the Region IV-2A Cross Country Championships to be held Saturday, Nov. 2 in San Antonio.

The Tigerettes won the district meet with 48 points and was followed by Bloomington (64), Industrial (64), Palacios (74), Refugio (77) and Tidehaven (173).

Leading the Tigerettes on the 2-mile course were freshman Andrea DeLaGarza (third, 14:12), sophomore Danielle Garza (fourth, 14:16), sophomore Marla Reyna (10th, 14:47), junior Denise Jones (12th, 14:54), freshman Michala Janssen (22nd, 15:35), junior Hanna Henson (26th, 16:12) and sophomore Krista Noland (33rd, 16:59).

The Tigers defended their district title with 38 points and were followed by Palacios (51), Industrial (51), Edna (88) and Bloomington (138).

Goliad senior John Von Dohlen was the district champion with a time of 18:17 over the the 3-mile course. Also leading the Tigers were senior Quentin Alkek (sixth, 18:58), senior Austen Guerrero (eighth, 19:00), junior Ryan Walker (13th, 19:57), senior Jake Schneider (15th, 20:27), freshman Rhett Davis (20th, 20:54) and sophomore Nick Westfall (29th, 22:13).

"I am so proud of our kids," Goliad coach Ed Ousley said. "They are great kids and I thank God for the opportunity to have been blessed with the opportunity to coach them. I would also like to thank the wonderful parents that come out to support us each week."
