GOLIAD – An employment discrimination case against Goliad County Sheriff Kirby Brumby has been settled out of court.

Former Goliad County Sheriff Robert De La Garza filed the lawsuit against Brumby in 2011, claiming Brumby prevented him from being hired as the Goliad ISD school resource officer. Brumby defeated De La Garza in the 2008 election for sheriff.

De La Garza was awarded $22,500 in the settlement. The suit was scheduled to go to federal court in October.
