GOLIAD – Margaret "Peggy" Pfenninger, 89, of Mathis died Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at home surrounded by family.

She was born Aug. 5, 1923 in Pleasanton to Irving and Florence Gaugler Lawton.

She was raised in Victoria, where she started her nursing career. One of her first patients was Henry, who later became her husband. She continued her nursing career at Spohn Hospital in Corpus Christi and retired in 1979 after many years as an OB nurse.

After marrying and raising their family, she and Henry retired to the farm in Goliad County, where they spent their last years together enjoying the cattle, gardening and canning. She and Henry always enjoyed the weekends when the kids and grandkids would come to visit.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Goliad for many years before moving to Mathis to live with Phyllis and Larry, where she continued to enjoy gardening, canning and the grandkids.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Henry F. Pfenninger; daughter, Linda Pfenninger; son, Irving Pfenninger; brother, Bruce Lawton; and grandson, Jason Meyers.

She is survived by her children Eldon Pfenninger of Goliad, Evelyn (Stephen) Morosko of Connecticut, Walter (Mary) Pfenninger of Goliad, Margaret (Tim) Lamberson of Boerne, Phyllis (Larry) Bailey of Mathis and Rev. Nello Barachini of Connecticut; 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons Clifford, David, Justin, Jeremy and Spencer Pfenninger, Jason and Dustin Bailey and Zachary Bryan.

The family would like to acknowledge the loving care provided to our mother by Dr. David Sutter of Corpus Christi.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 26 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Grace Funeral Home in Goliad. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, April 27, at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Funeral Home in Gelid.

Officiated by Rev. Al Hoerig, a longtime family friend.

Burial to follow immediately at Evergreen Cemetery in Victoria.
